Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has only eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
