England's heavyweight contender will be upgraded to world boxing champion after Oleksandr Usyk chose to vacate his title

This follows after Usyk notified the WBO he would not engage in a required championship defense against his mandatory opponent

WBO Statement

The WBO stated that Usyk had "elected to relinquish his title after thoughtful consideration"

Usyk still holds the multiple world titles, having defeated Daniel Dubois at the famous London venue in July to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion

He initially achieved the four-belt undisputed champion in May 2024 by overcoming Tyson Fury, before relinquishing one championship five weeks later and choosing to avoid the required opponent

The champion captured the championship in 2021 by overcoming Joshua and went on to successfully defend multiple times

In mid-year, the WBO had ordered negotiations for a mandatory defence against temporary title holder Parker, only for a champion's back problem to require rescheduling of the bout

Wardley's Rise

But Wardley, 30, captured the temporary championship from the New Zealander with a huge upset in the later stages at the famous London arena last month and was required to challenge Usyk before the month's conclusion

The WBO is yet to officially confirm the title change but his manager Warren believes it is a done deal
