Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Address the Anime's Biggest Controversy

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an brand-new film. Rather, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen supernatural series serves as a collection of the anime's second season stitched together with the opening installments of its third season, which begins the Culling Games arc from the source material. This positions Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to see the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The movie premieres in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games storyline, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the very first time on the cinema screen, and if the animators at Mappa have an exceptional piece as episodes 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for viewers this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the present that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap episodes" from season 2 is often hailed as one of the greatest sequences in animated series lore, in spite of all the controversy in last year when the series first premiered. It was reported that the artists were enduring crunch conditions to the degree, and the final version that aired at the time was not fully polished and supposedly not what the artists originally planned.

The Epic Battle

The scene showcases a long-awaited battle between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes unique visual techniques, masterful camera work, and intense action. A subsequent physical media version gave the animators a chance to include extra footage to flesh out the battle. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it hadn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the largest display with the finest quality available.

Season Two's Achievement

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become the top anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were released back to back, it was the focus of attention for weeks in the animation fandom. Audiences knew about the issues behind the scenes, which made them admire what they viewed even more. People clamored to see if the Blu-ray, released on March 18, would add any additional scenes to the fight or to see if it was improved in any way, and were elated to see exactly that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and revised visual style.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the physical release can only touch up what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the opportunity to properly present the moment with additional alterations and freshly created footage.

A Magnum Opus

As it stands, these two episodes represent the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the studio, especially considering the controversy they encountered at the time. It's captured the interest of series enthusiasts all over the world, and the Culling Games arc is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the coming year. If the production company wants to start the year off right, revisit the show's top scene once again in movie houses with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
