Mikel Arteta Praises ‘More Reliable’ Team and Acknowledges Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with player absences after disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for Havertz

Havertz has been sidelined since the summer due to an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when advancing his recovery and was unable to move forward “to the next level.”

“Our experience helped us build a squad that is far more dependable and has more options,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a tactical puzzle for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Additional concerns involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to continue in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players during the summer has left Arsenal in a more robust situation to deal with such absences.

Greater Options Vital for Title Challenge

When asked if more options was benefiting their title quest, his response was positive. “Indeed, because this season has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at this level. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the setback noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it appears like we have overcome that hurdle.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, personally, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I observe his frustration being outside.”

“His fitness history is exceptional, he's rarely been injured, and I look forward to see him return with the squad and playing because I believe it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
