New Jersey's top prosecutor leaves her post in the wake of appeals court rules against her appointment.
Alina Habba has left her position as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This comes after a legal ruling that challenged her eligibility to occupy the role.
Attorney General's Statement
The nation's top law enforcement official, the Attorney General, accepted the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it impossible for Habba to effectively run her office.
"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "My fight will now extend throughout America."
Court Ruling
Habba's exit follows closely on a US appeals court found that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is expected to impact many criminal cases in New Jersey.
The judicial panel declared that a acting appointment that bypassed Senate approval violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

The Attorney General added that Habba will remain at the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. They intend to challenge the decision of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a reversal.
In a statement, the Attorney General contended that the court "cannot be permitted to countermand the executive's selection of attorneys tasked with performing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."

Connection to Donald Trump
The 41-year-old attorney, was initially recruited to the former president's legal defense in 2021. She later defended Trump in his New York criminal case in the previous year, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.
Before assuming the top New Jersey post, the former president had stated he was naming her as his senior adviser in a potential future term, labeling Habba as "unwavering in her loyalty" and a relentless legal advocate.
