New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
