The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
