The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
