The President Welcomes Relatives of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Mourners came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Revisions
Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she also intended to speak to the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
