The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
