Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts this season.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto's team won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
